Her Real Life, The Introduction

Her Real Life

The podcast about her, you, and me. Real conversations about everyday life, situations and struggles that we all go through, yet feel alone. Discussions about culture, spirituality, navigating the world as we now know it and the kids we have to raise in it. Just real life.

This is a place where we can share the real deal. I began this exploratory journey of allowing myself to be “real” about 2 years ago. Before that, I spent hours making sure my family was ready, beautiful, and acceptable in the eyes of others yet, we truly weren’t internally okay. It took a terrible event that happened to finally take the band-aid of what I call “magazine life” to allow us to begin the healing process. We struggled with the same things that many around us did, but we just knew how to keep it behind closed doors.

There were many around us who always thought we were the perfect family with no issues. We would be asked how we did it, praised for being two professional leaders in our community with two beautiful children. Two people who were heavily involved in our church, our children were involved in sports, piano lessons, voice lessons and any other thing possible.

The reality was, we didn’t have it together and one day it all fell apart. I never felt such hurt, shame, failure and loss as I did during that time. I can remember riding in my car, hearing God say to me, “A wound can’t heal if it’s always covered. It needs air.” So, I ripped off the band-aid and started living. It was at that moment that I realized the true meaning of “everything happens for a reason.” My most traumatic events of life, at that time, were actually what I needed to get better. The amount of ladies who reached out to me was eye opening, encouraging and at times hurtful. I found out who was really praying, who was wanting the best for me and my family, and who was just contacting me to be nosy, (you know the type). The experience was one I will never forget; and I am thankful for it all.

With this podcast, I hope you will be encouraged to listen and relate as you hear stories and life experiences of people who are just like you. We all go through similar situations. As you look at the next person, don’t believe for a second they don’t struggle in areas like you do, their kids don’t always do as they are asked, and their marriage or relationship isn’t perfect either. What we all must remember is that we need each other to be supportive, pray for one another and to come together to agree. The Bible tells us in Matthew 18:20 how powerful we are together, and the enemy wants nothing more than to keep us isolated with our issues. Don’t let that happen. With this podcast, we definitely talk about real life; from our spirituality to our day to day life.
